Blizzard Entertainment's video game Hearthstone has been removed from the list of titles set to debut as an esports medal event at this year's Asian Games in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, organizers announced on Thursday.
Hearthstone's exit leaves the following seven games in the Asian Games esports competition: FIFA Online 4, PUBG Mobile Asian Games version, Arena of Valor Asian Games version, Dota 2, League of Legends, Dream Three Kingdoms 2 and Street Fighter V.
Hearthstone was one of the eight esports events set to feature at the Hangzhou Asian Games. However, the game was excluded after negotiations between Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase on operating rights and partnership fell through.
“Because of the expiration of the business cooperation between the two parties … the operations team and servers for the game have been terminated, which no longer meets the preconditions for inclusion in the esports program of the Hangzhou Asian Games,” according to the statement.
