Since the start of the summer vacation, museums and cultural institutions across China have been bustling with activity and excitement. According to Ctrip data, as of July 19th, the number of bookings for summer museum visits on the platform has shown double-digit growth compared to 2023, making them the most popular type of scenic spot.

On the evening of August 7th, the Guangdong Provincial Museum announced that reservations for all visitors will resume starting August 8th, just a few days after introducing a limited walk-in quota on August 2nd.

According to the museum, the number of visitors far exceeds its capacity, which not only diminishes the audience’s experience but also poses risks to the safety of cultural relics. Additionally, the long queues may disrupt pedestrian traffic and impact social security.
On Aug 6, some visitors who purchased tickets through third-party platforms were unable to enter the Sanxingdui Museum because their information was not in the ticket-checking system, preventing others from visiting.
打卡盛行,静谧不在

In today's museum craze, it is common for visitors to enter a museum merely to mark their presence at a popular spot by posting photos online. For the sake of capturing the perfect shot, some even disregard regulations and damage exhibits.
Meanwhile, some overly commercialized museums blindly create attractions to cater to visitors’ desires, gaining popularity at the expense of depth. To attract a broader audience, these museums may also prioritize regular exhibitions over more experimental ones.
