A recent photo of Quan Hongchan, two-time Olympian and three-time gold medalist diver, alongside her senior teammate and fellow Olympic gold medalist, He Zi, has garnered widespread attention online. In the picture, Quan appears taller than He, sparking discussions about whether the teenaged Quan has had a growth spurt.
However, Beijing Youth Daily said the angle of the photo seems to be misleading. He's official height is 1.58 meters, and the claims that Quan's height has exceeded that of her 34-year-old teammate are inaccurate.
To adapt to these physical changes, Quan has had to intensify her strength and conditioning training to maintain her technical precision and improve the stability of her dives.
Now, having navigated through the challenges of her growth spurt, whether she can maintain her peak performance depends not only on increased training, but also on managing her diet to maintain the optimal weight for her dives.
With the guidance of her coach and her own relentless determination, Quan has overcome the hurdles posed by her physical growth. At the Paris 2024 Olympics, she achieved another victory—defending her Olympic gold in the women's 10-meter platform event and becoming China's youngest-ever triple gold medalist in Olympic history.
In the history of China's diving team, Fu Mingxia famously transitioned from the 10-meter platform to the 3-meter springboard due to physical changes, eventually winning Olympic golds in both events. This has led to speculation about whether Quan might follow a similar path.
However, the national diving team's springboard coach clarified that there are no plans for Quan to switch events. Successfully transitioning between the two is a significant challenge.
