On March 18, a customer in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, spotted a rat in the ingredient area of a Yang Guofu restaurant, a popular chain serving Malatang street food. The store responded that the rat had entered from a neighboring shop and that all affected ingredients had been removed. On the evening of March 21, the Suzhou Industrial Park Market Supervision Administration issued a notice, ordering the restaurant to shut down immediately and launching an official investigation, promising strict action in accordance with the law.
