The public security cyber department has determined that a netizen, surnamed Xu (male, 36), deliberately fabricated and spread false information to gain online traffic and illicit profits.
Xu used the AI-generated content feature of a platform to create and publish a rumor titled "Top-tier celebrity allegedly lost 1 billion yuan in gambling, sparking public outcry" on Sunday.
The post quickly went viral, triggering widespread discussions among netizens and leading related rumors and topics to frequently trend on social media. The incident has severely disrupted public order.
In accordance with relevant laws and regulations, the public security authorities have imposed an eight-day administrative detention on Xu.
