Elon Musk has made personal appeals to Donald Trump to reverse his new wave of sweeping tariffs, The Washington Post reported over the weekend.
The attempted intervention, confirmed by two people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private talks, has not brought success so far.
On Monday morning, Musk posted a well-known video of economist Milton Friedman touting free trade by explaining how the component parts of a pencil require complex supply chains.
That followed a weekend where Musk took aim at Trump's top trade adviser, Peter Navarro, suggesting that his push for steep and broad-based trade barriers is wrongheaded.
