The COVID-19 positivity rate among cases that presented like influenza reached 22.8 percent during the last week of May, indicating that nearly one in five tested patients was infected with the virus, noted Zhong Nanshan, an academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, citing data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Zhong noted that although the virus remains highly transmissible, its ability to cause severe disease has weakened significantly, now resembling that of seasonal flu. "The key is to administer appropriate medication to high-risk groups, such as the elderly and those with chronic diseases, to reduce the likelihood of severe illness or death," he said.
"We should approach COVID-19 just as we do the flu — there's no need to panic."
