A seminar for the critically acclaimed drama This Thriving Land, was held in Beijing on Wednesday, featuring behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast and crew.
At the event, Yang Mi, who plays Ning Xiuxiu in the series, expressed gratitude to a mentor who guided her during preparations for the role. Director Liu Jiacheng revealed that Yang Mi had requested to experience rural life before filming. The production team arranged for her to stay in a village in Jyunan, Linyi, Shandong province—the hometown of the novel's original author, Zhao Defa. There, Yang was paired with a local "master", surnamed Yin, who taught her essential rural skills.
杨幂也在发言中回忆，拍摄之前这位师傅每天教她生活技能，烧柴生火、大锅做饭、烙煎饼、纳鞋底、缝衣服、剪窗花，还有各种农活的基本功，如何准备牛饲料，学会用农具，在这位“师傅”家里，杨幂还吃了很多农家饭，真切体验地道的山东美食，就连邻居家大姐也经常找她拉呱，为她提供沉浸式的农村体验，在她们的讲述中感受这片土地上生存着世世代代与土地打了一辈子交道的农民们。
Yang shared vivid memories of her time in the village: under Yin's guidance, she learned to chop firewood, cook in large traditional woks, make Shandong-style pancakes, sew shoes and clothes, craft paper-cuttings, and handle basic farm chores such as preparing cattle feed and using agricultural tools. She also enjoyed authentic local meals and bonded with villagers, including a neighbor who often chatted with her, providing an immersive understanding of rural life.
"I told Yin that once the series airs, I'd want her to watch it. If she approves of my performance, that would be my greatest pride," Yang said emotionally.
Reflecting on her role, she added, "I lived through Xiuxiu's life, and she, in turn, taught me how to bravely live my own and continue my path as an actor. This is the happiness of an actor—a mutual journey of growth with the character."
据了解，今年8月，根据长篇小说《缱绻与决绝》改编的电视剧《生万物》播出。小说作为赵德发“农民三部曲”的开篇之作，曾斩获第三届人民文学奖、入围第五届茅盾文学奖，并入选国家广电总局优秀文学作品改编计划重点项目，一经改编就备受观众期待。
This Thriving Land is adapted from part of writer Zhao Defa's 1996 novel Qianquan Yu Juejue (translated Deep Attachment and Decided Severance), which won the prestigious People's Literature Award in 2001. Part of the writer's farmer trilogy, the book, set against the backdrop of the Yimeng Mountains in Linyi, Shandong province, spans four generations and tells of farmers' evolving relationship with the land as times change.
该剧以鲁南农村土地变迁为背景，讲述了以宁绣绣、封大脚、费左氏为代表的宁、封、费三个家族、两代人的兴衰史。天牛庙村村民为同一片土地不断努力，是跨越多年打不散的邻里情，也是老一辈农民对土地的敬畏与依恋。
