Toly Bread, a major Chinese baked goods brand, has removed a controversial elevator advertisement for its mooncake series "Toly Mooncake" following criticism on social media.
The ad, which featured the tagline: "Some say five-nut mooncakes don't taste good. We think it's because you're still young and haven't been beaten up by life yet," sparked accusations of condescension and poor logic from netizens. Many criticized the message for being tone-deaf and unclear in its intent — whether to appeal to or mock consumers.
在广告引发争议后,桃李面包相关负责人表示,本次投放是品牌方第一次尝试开放式的内部共创机制,为了兼顾不同年龄阶段的共鸣,公司邀请了不同年龄层的同事自由创作文案,最终共产出了20组版本进行投放,本意是希望通过多样化的表达与不同受众建立连接,但其中一个版本在投放后引发了争议。
In response, a Toly Bread representative has explained that the advertisement was part of an internal creative experiment aimed at connecting with different age groups. Employees from various generations were invited to contribute ideas, resulting in 20 versions of the ad. The company expressed regret that one of the versions has caused unintended controversy.
该负责人称,对此表示歉意,并将进一步完善审核机制,努力在鼓励创意的同时,更好地平衡审慎把关,避免类似情况再次发生。
The ad was taken down one day after its release. The brand apologized and committed to strengthening its review process to better balance creative freedom with social sensitivity.
9月5日,桃李面包京东旗舰店显示,该款月饼五仁口味和红豆馅目前无货。
As of Friday, the five-nut and red bean flavors of the mooncakes were listed as out of stock on Toly Bread's JD.com flagship store.
今年以来,多家品牌因“冒犯式营销”而翻车。
有媒体评论称:所谓的玩梗也好、幽默也罢,必须建立在遵守法律、尊重消费者的基础上,不能一味追求网感、流量,而忽视品牌自身所承担的社会责任。这种自认为幽默的“冒犯式营销”,该停了。
