The German broadcaster Deutsche Welle has debunked a rumor circulating on overseas social media that claims a video from China's Tiangong space station was fabricated. The false claim is based on a screenshot of a water-filled cup not floating in microgravity.
The image was in fact taken from the first lesson of Tiangong Classroom on Dec 9, 2021, where Shenzhou-13 astronauts Wang Yaping, Zhai Zhigang, and Ye Guangfu delivered a live science lesson later broadcast worldwide.
To refute the rumors, the China Manned Space Engineering website later released a behind-the-scenes video showing an astronaut securing the cup with adhesive strips and squeezing water into it through a straw. Floating droplets confirmed the weightless environment.

Although China had already provided a detailed explanation, the rumor resurfaced on multiple overseas social media platforms earlier this month, misleading users.
A spokesperson from the German Aerospace Center and an expert at the University of Bremen confirmed to Deutsche Welle that the video showed no signs of fabrication. They noted that a table tennis ball placed in water did not rise to the surface, which is consistent with microgravity conditions.
