For foreigners staying in a hotel, residence registration can be handled by the hotel.

Foreigners can register residence by presenting a valid passport or other international travel documents at the hotel reception.

Foreigners, who stay elsewhere, need to register residence at the local police station within 24 hours after arrival.

Foreigners who work in China shall access social security in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Social Insurance Law of the People's Republic of China and the Interim Measures for Social Insurance System Coverage of Foreigners Working within the Territory of China.
外国人在华工作，应按照《中华人民共和国社会保险法》和《在中国境内就业的外国人参加社会保险暂行办法》有关规定，参加社会保险。
Make sure your employer has paid your social security contributions, which is a crucial aspect of employment compliance. Also, ensure that taxes are paid, as non-payment may affect the legal remittance of your salary.

Foreign nationals shall fill in the Annual Individual Income Tax Return for Self-Filing and associated forms within the periodfrom March 1 to June 30 of the following year, and do the annual tax reconciliation with the tax authority.

Tips: Better keep all the invoice (fapiao) associated to house rental, language training fees and education expenses for children in case you will need them for the annual return. Ensure the invoice name matches and is in the same order as your tax documents.
