Starting today, November 20, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) has launched a new online system allowing foreign travelers to submit entry information digitally before arriving in China. This initiative eliminates the need to fill out a paper-based arrival card upon landing, making immigration clearance faster and more efficient.
Foreign nationals can now complete their arrival details through multiple official online channels, including the NIA’s official website, government service platforms, the "Immigration Bureau 12367" app, and WeChat or Alipay mini-programs. They may also scan a QR code for the arrival form using their mobile devices. For those unable to submit information online in advance, options remain available upon arrival: scanning a QR code at the immigration checkpoint, using self-service kiosks, or completing a physical arrival card as before.
To ensure a smooth rollout, immigration authorities in cities such as Shanghai have proactively coordinated with airlines to facilitate pre-arrival completion of the digital form. Airlines now notify passengers during check-in abroad and provide guidance mid-flight through in-seat screens and printed instruction cards. This allows travelers to submit their details before landing and proceed directly to immigration clearance. Assistance is also available at ports of entry to support those needing help with the online process.
This year, China has introduced a series of visa facilitation measures, including unilateral visa exemptions and mutual visa-waiver agreements with several countries. Combined with ongoing efforts to optimize entry procedures, these policies have contributed to a notable increase in international arrivals.
The new online arrival system is expected to further enhance border efficiency, improve the travel experience, and support China's ongoing efforts to foster a world-class business environment and promote international exchange.
