A young journalist in Brazil, Clara Nery, was subjected to a horrific mugging attempt while preparing to go live on air. She was typing a message on her phone before the broadcast when a motorcyclist sped by and tried to snatch her phone. She let out a scream in response to the sudden attack.
Fortunately, she did not lose her phone because she held on tightly.
Clara recounted her experience: "While my back was turned, someone on a motorcycle came up on the sidewalk and tried to take my phone. It's visible in the video; he reached for my phone with his hand, but I was holding it tightly, I didn't drop it."
The Military Police of Rio de Janeiro, who arrived at the scene, searched the area but could not find the suspect. Thanks to security cameras, the suspect's face was clearly identified.
Clara said, "I was able to get hold of my phone thanks to his clumsiness. We also have the security camera footage, and his face is clearly visible."
Authorities stated that cellphone thefts in Rio de Janeiro have increased by 27% compared to the same period last year. In June, approximately 2,300 phones were stolen, compared to 1,808 in the same month last year. This increase highlights a serious rise in cellphone theft incidents.
