I am delighted to share the publication of my latest book, The AI City, now available through Springer as an open access title.

As artificial intelligence increasingly reshapes our urban landscapes and governance models, this book emerges from a fundamental question that urban planners of our generation must confront: How can we design cities in the age of AI that are intelligent, resilient, and deeply human?

《人工智能城市》是我长期从事城市数字化与智能化转型研究的重要成果之一。全书共15章，系统构建了理解和建设“AI赋能城市”的理论框架、技术路径与实践体系。

本书以青岛、上海、台州等城市为案例，深入探讨如何将人工智能技术与真实的城市问题相结合，从而推动城市变得更加适应性强、公平且具前瞻性。

本书面向城市规划、人工智能与公共政策领域的研究人员与学生，同时也为政策制定者、建筑师、城市治理者与企业创新者提供一条通往未来的知识路径。

书中首先回顾了从传统智慧城市向更具动态性与响应性的“人工智能城市”范式的演进，提出了AI城市的核心构成要素与原型类型。随后探讨了人工智能如何切实回应城市中如拥堵、资源分配与社会公平等紧迫问题。中后部分构建了AI城市的决策支持系统与数字孪生技术框架，并对青岛、上海、台州等试点案例进行了深入剖析。这些案例提供了AI如何在现实城市治理中发挥作用的实践基础。最后，本书对中国推进AI城市建设的路径进行了反思，涉及制度准备、数据基础设施以及创新与公共价值之间的平衡。

The AI City represents a major milestone in my ongoing research on the digital and intelligent transformation of cities. The book comprises 15 chapters that construct a conceptual, technical, and practical framework for understanding and building AI-empowered cities.

Drawing on case studies from cities such as Qingdao, Shanghai, and Taizhou, the book explores how AI technologies can be aligned with real urban demands to create cities that are more adaptive, equitable, and forward-looking.

This work is intended for researchers and students in urban planning, AI, and public policy—as well as policymakers, architects, and entrepreneurs seeking a roadmap toward the future.

The book begins by tracing the evolution from traditional smart cities to the more dynamic and responsive paradigm of AI Cities, introducing the core components and prototypes that define this new urban form. It further explores how AI technologies can be effectively aligned with pressing urban challenges such as congestion, resource allocation, and social equity. Subsequent chapters offer a technical framework for building decision-support systems and digital twin platforms, followed by in-depth analyses of pilot projects in Qingdao, Shanghai, and Taizhou. These case studies provide a grounded understanding of how AI is shaping real-world planning and governance. The book concludes with a critical examination of China’s path toward AI City development, reflecting on institutional readiness, data infrastructure, and the balance between innovation and public value.
