WUWEI city in northwest China's Gansu province is building a bonded logistics centre, which will be the first of its kind in the province, reports Xinhua.
The Wuwei Bonded Logistics Centre covers a land area of 48.93 hectares with a planned construction area reaching 50 square kilometres. Wuwei municipal deputy mayor Zhang Anjiang said they aim to develop Wuwei into a major international overland distribution hub in northwest China.
Located in the throat area of Hexi Corridor, Wuwei was a strategic town in old Silk Road. However, along with the decline of the overland Silk Road, the once important east-west trade transshipment hub is facing the problem of looking for a convenient outlet to sea.
At present, exports from Wuwei are mostly shipped by sea via Tianjin port and a small number of exports will be exported to Central Asia and European regions through Xinjiang's Korgas checkpoint.
The Wuwei Bonded Logistics Centre won establishment approval from the State Council at the end of January this year and it will be the first area in Gansu province under special customs supervision.
After completion, the centre can handle export tax rebate and offer custom clearance service, which can help enterprises to reduce export cost and save money.
