NORDIC airlines lead the way in adopting International Air Transport Association (IATA) and International Federation of Freight Forwarders (FIATA) standard for the multilateral electronic air waybill, says the company.
The nine member airlines of SAS Cargo, Finnair Cargo, Lufthansa Cargo, Air France/KLM, Korean Air, Cathay Pacific, Qatar Airways and Emirates will adopt the standard e-AWB following piloting schemes, which began in 2009.
The move of a single process for the nine airlines will promote paperless air cargo and avoid unnecessary documentation. It will reduce paper volume that stands to reduce 30 forms per air shipment.
IATA's global head of cargo Des Vertannes congratulated the Nordic and Baltic countries in a move he hoped would motivate others to adopt e-AWB. "This is a fantastic example of cross-border cooperation."
