AVIATION police in Taiwan have ordered a "Z Portal" cargo screening system produced by American Science and Engineering (AS&E), a supplier of X-ray detection devices.
This latest order complements an earlier purchase of a Sentry Portal System to "provide optimal detection capability", said a company statement posted by Globe Newswire.
By co-locating their new Z Portal system with their existing Sentry Portal, Taiwan Aviation Police will have a more comprehensive air cargo screening system to better detect organic threats and other contraband in pallets and containers routed through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
"As concealment techniques grow more sophisticated, detection capabilities must become more comprehensive," said AS&E president and CEO Chuck Dougherty.
"We're leveraging our domain expertise to advise customers on the deployment of complementary technologies to provide unparalleled screening capabilities for threats and contraband.
"It's this ability to deliver more comprehensive security solutions that drives expansion opportunities in Asia and other targeted markets."
Taiwan Aviation Police's Gemini(R) 100100 air cargo X-ray inspection system was instrumental in uncovering 244 cartons of the anaesthetic drug Ketamine, making it one of the largest narcotics seizures in the region over the past few years.
The technology offers multi-view, drive-through screening of cars, vans, trucks and their cargo to detect explosives, drugs, stowaways and other contraband.
