【报告摘要】

Against the backdrop of China’s “Unified National Market” strategy and the goal of developing “new quality productive forces,” an important question is whether institutional participation can enhance firms’ competitiveness without undermining fair market competition. This study focuses on the institutional scenario of corporate participation in standard-setting and, using data from Chinese A-share listed firms from 1999 to 2023, systematically examines its effects on firms’ innovation capacity and financial performance. The results show that participation in standard-setting significantly enhances innovation, as reflected in increased R&D investment, higher quantity and quality of invention patents, and a larger share of R&D personnel. These effects are more pronounced among firms operating in industries with high market concentration, greater supply chain efficiency, and lower financing constraints, suggesting that resource endowment and institutional environment are critical conditions for transforming institutional participation into innovation advantages. Further analysis reveals a significant positive association between standard-setting and patents in core technologies, underscoring its institutional value in fostering new productive forces and promoting high-quality innovation. Moreover, improvements in innovation capacity contribute to lower selling expenses, higher profit margins, and stronger profit growth, thereby enhancing firms’ financial performance. Overall, this study extends the literature on innovation from the perspective of corporate policy participation and provides empirical evidence and policy implications for improving the standard governance system and supporting firms’ transformation from “institutional adopters” to “rule makers.”

Generative AI (GenAI) tools have been widely integrated into online matching platforms. Although these tools can improve writing quality, they may also lead to content convergence, resulting in increased screening difficulty and reduced matching efficiency. In this paper, we study the Job Post Generator, a GenAI tool launched by a leading freelance platform. We find evidence that overall writing quality improved after the launch of this tool, but the content has become more similar. Using a propensity score matching difference-in-differences method, we find that, on average, GenAI improved matching efficiency. However, employers who relied heavily on AI-generated content with minimal modifications experienced longer matching times and higher payment cost. In contrast, those who actively edited and customized AI-generated job postings achieved significant improvements in matching efficiency, benefiting from shorter matching times, lower payment costs, faster delivery of task completed by freelancers, and higher satisfaction with freelancers' performance. Our paper shows that the homogeneity of job postings caused by AI-generated writing can negatively affect matching efficiency. These findings suggest that online matching platforms offering generative AI tools should encourage users to modify and personalize AI-generated content to achieve better outcomes.

Jingman Cao is a final-year PhD candidate from the Department of Economics at NUS and is currently on the academic job market. She has an M.S. in Economics from the University of Hong Kong, as well as a B.S. in Economics and a B.S. in Biology from Xiamen University.Her research centers on quant marketing, empirical IO, digital platforms and AI. She leverages structural modeling, causal inference, and machine learning techniques to study novel research questions within the context of AI and digital platforms.

【报告摘要】

This paper examines how persuasive delivery interacts with information content in shaping retail investor behavior. We construct a novel dataset of livestream promotional events linked to the initial offerings of mutual funds in China between 2020 and 2024. These funds are marketed before any performance records or portfolio disclosures become available, providing a setting with minimal information about these funds and allowing cleaner identification of persuasion effects. We find that persuasive features—such as vocal tone, facial expressiveness, and image clarity—significantly increase investor subscriptions. However, this effect weakens when new information is presented during the livestream and diminishes further when fund managers—who typically provide more information—are present. Overall, our findings suggest that information and persuasive delivery act as substitutes in shaping investor decision-making.

许年行,现任中国人民大学商学院财务与金融系主任,教授、博士生导师。主要研究方向是公司财务与资本市场,及其与生态环境、行为心理、社会文化等领域的交叉研究。先后获得国家自然科学基金“杰出青年科学基金项目”、“优秀青年科学基金项目”和“原创探索计划项目”、全国优秀博士学位论文,入选国家级青年人才计划和中组部首批“青年拔尖人才”(国家“万人计划”)。已在本领域国内外一流期刊Journal of Financial Economics、Management Science、Contemporary Accounting Research、Review of Finance、《经济研究》、《管理世界》、《管理科学学报》等发表论文40余篇。入选2020、2021、2022年“爱思唯尔中国高被引学者”。学术成果先后获得中国高校人文社会科学研究优秀成果一等奖和三等奖、中国金融学年会、China International Conference in Finance(CICF)、The Chinese Finance Association(TCFA)等国内外学术会议优秀论文奖。
