概要
China and Canada are serious competitors in the global race for highly skilled professionals, including in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Based on Canadian and other foreign expertise and practice models, China has successfully developed and implemented its own programs to recruit and retain foreign professionals and students (future foreign professionals). In the years leading up to the global health crisis, China became increasingly attractive to foreign talent and students. This presentation draws comparisons based on the experiences of Canada and China in recent years, focusing in particular on some of the drastic changes and restrictions that Canada is implementing in recruiting and retaining international students and professionals, including those from China. Is Canada learning from Chinese expertise and adopting China's long-standing focus on attracting and retaining high-calibre talent? At the same time, what lessons can Canada still offer regarding the successful attraction and retention of the world's best and brightest talent?
