The closing ceremony of the 15th National Games will be held tomorrow at the Happy Theater at OH Bay in Bao’an District. To ensure road safety and smooth traffic flow during the event — which coincides with the Friday evening rush hour — Shenzhen traffic police will implement a series of temporary traffic control measures across key areas.

Temporary road closures and controls

From 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, the following roads will be temporarily closed:

  • Yuan’an 1st Road (from the eastern boundary of Yanjiang Expressway to Jinke Road)

  • Jinke Road (Yuan’an 1st Road to Haixiu Road)

  • Haixiu Road (Jinke Road to Baohua Road)

  • Baohua Road (Haixiu Road to Haifu Road)

  • Haifu Road (Baohua Road to Xinan West Road)

  • Xinan West Road (Haifu Road to Haitian Road)

Flow control will also be implemented at intersections within this zone, based on the ceremony’s timeline, to ease congestion on surrounding roads. Controls will be lifted in stages as the event progresses.

A traffic officer stands beside a diversion sign in Nanshan District, directing vehicles to detour via Yueliangwan Boulevard and the Mawan Cross-sea Channel in Shenzhen.

From 7:15 p.m. to 9:40 p.m., temporary controls will be imposed on both directions of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway (between Qianhai and Dachan Bay toll stations). Additional flow controls will apply to nearby segments based on traffic conditions.

Detour recommendations

  • Drivers are urged not to drive near the ceremony area. Those with essential travel needs are advised to detour via Xingye Road, Chuangye 1st Road, Xinhu Road, the Mawan Cross-sea Channel, or other nearby routes.

  • Northbound vehicles on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway (Qianhai to Dachan Bay) from the Shekou Port area may detour via the Mawan Cross-sea Channel (excluding hazardous materials transport), re-entering at Dachan Bay toll station.

Vehicles from the Shenzhen Bay area may use Yueliangwan Boulevard, then detour via National Highway 107 or the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway.

A traffic detour map shows alternate northbound routes during temporary controls on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway between Qianhai and Dachan Bay toll stations in Shenzhen on Friday.
  • Southbound vehicles (Dachan Bay to Qianhai) heading toward Shekou Port can exit early at Dachan Bay and detour via the Mawan Cross-sea Channel.

Those heading to Shenzhen Bay can exit at the Airport Interchange, transfer to the Shenzhen-Cenxi Expressway eastbound, and merge onto the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway.

A detour map highlights southbound alternative routes as traffic restrictions are enforced between Dachan Bay and Qianhai toll stations on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Coastal Expressway in Shenzhen on Friday.

Traffic police will be stationed at all restricted routes to manage entry points, set up temporary control signs and barriers, and guide traffic toward alternative routes. Drivers are urged to follow police instructions and respect all posted restrictions.

Public transport and green travel encouraged

As the traffic controls overlap with Friday’s evening peak, congestion in the affected areas is expected to increase. The public is strongly encouraged to use public transportation such as metro and bus services, which can fully meet general travel needs.

Authorities also recommend using real-time navigation apps and monitoring official updates to adjust travel plans and routes accordingly. Citizens are asked to support the traffic control efforts and adopt green travel habits for smoother, safer commutes.

Citywide traffic enforcement tightened

Police officers conduct roadside vehicle checks and traffic control in central Shenzhen.

To safeguard citywide traffic order during the Games, Shenzhen traffic police have also ramped up full-scale enforcement with the continued deployment of drone patrols. These drones conduct real-time aerial surveillance, issue public safety reminders, and help detect traffic violations with precision.

The enforcement focuses on key violations such as:

  • E-bike and three-wheeler riders running red lights, using motor vehicle lanes, or riding against traffic;

  • Motor vehicle offenses including overloading, speeding, drunk driving, and illegal street racing.
