I have known her since she was seventeen. That is more than half of her life. I did not give birth to her but my son fell in love with her and asked her to marry him. She became my daughter and I became her mother. It was a real treat to have another female around after all those years with a husband and three sons!

I have watched her grow up and evolve from a teenager into an amazing adult. She is very self-confident and smart, and at the same time, she is loving, compassionate, and fun. She brings sunshine and warmth into any room she enters.

我亲眼看着她从一个少女成长为一个出色的成年人。她自信、聪慧，同时又充满爱心、同情心与趣味。无论她走进哪个房间，都会带来阳光与温暖。

We have fun together. We often will say the same thing at the same time. She claims we have the same brain and that we think alike. I remember when I was out shopping for earrings to give her for her birthday. When the saleswoman learned I was buying a gift for my daughter-in-law she gave me that “oh, poor you” look. She told me I should look at all of the earrings in the case and then pick the earrings I liked the very least because those would be the ones my daughter-in-law would like the best. I told her that, in this case, her plan wouldn’t work. I picked the ones I liked the best and Crescent loved them too. I knew she would!

After my son and Crescent had been married for a number of years, we got the exciting news that she was pregnant. It was wonderful for me to see Crescent slowly change from a career woman into a mom. Her pregnancy was textbook perfect and she just glowed. At each ultrasound appointment we saw what our baby looked like and how he was developing. And make no mistake about it… this was OUR baby! Crescent has always stressed that this baby belongs to me, too, and she has always made me feel a special part of his life since the time he was conceived. I have always been included and I thank her for that.

It has been an amazing experience to watch Crescent transform from daughter to mother. I was so proud of the way she handled those first few months: from the sleepless nights to the frustrations of having a colicky baby to the joy of his first smile and to the laughter at his cute antics. That teenager I met years ago has become a mature, selfless, compassionate mother. I couldn’t be any more proud of her if I had given birth to her myself.

见证Crescent从女儿到母亲的蜕变，是一段奇妙的旅程。头几个月里，她熬过无眠的夜，应对肠绞痛宝宝的焦躁，又为他的第一次微笑、可爱小动作而欢笑——我为她感到无比自豪。当年那个十七岁的少女，如今已成长为成熟、无私、充满爱心的母亲。即便她不是我亲生，我也再骄傲不过。

Crescent had a very successful career. Before our baby was born she wasn’t sure that she wanted to be a stay-at-home mom and we talked about it a lot. After he was born she told me that she just couldn’t bear the thought of being away from him for even a little while: to miss his first smile, his first laugh, his first steps. I had been a stay-at-home mom and I told her that being a mom is the hardest job in the whole world. There are no days off, no promotions, no paid vacations. But motherhood is also the very best and most rewarding job in the whole world.

Crescent原本事业非常成功。孩子出生前，她不确定是否要全职在家，我们为此谈了许多次。当他真正降生，她告诉我，哪怕只离开他一小会儿、错过他的第一次笑、第一次咯咯声、第一步，她都受不了。我曾是全职妈妈，便告诉她：母亲是世界上最艰辛的工作——没有休息日、没有晋升、没有带薪假期，却也是最好、最有价值的职业。

Our baby is almost a year old now. He’s over his colic and is a joy to be around. Crescent’s hard work and patience has started to pay off. He is developing his own personality and I can see some of her sweet traits in him already. Every day Crescent continues to grow as a mom. She tells me that I have been a role model for her. And for that I am so proud and blessed. How lucky our baby is to have such an amazing mom. And how lucky I am to have such a wonderful daughter.

如今宝宝快满周岁了，肠绞痛早已过去，他成了人见人爱的小开心果。Crescent的辛劳与耐心开始收获回报：他逐渐显出自己的小个性，我已能看出他继承了妈妈的甜美特质。Crescent每天都在成长为更棒的母亲。她说，我是她的榜样。这份肯定让我既骄傲又感恩。我们的宝宝拥有如此出色的妈妈，是多么幸运；而我拥有这样一位女儿，又是多么幸福。
