Singapore's manufacturing output rose 3.9 percent year-on-year in May, following a 5.9 percent increase in April, according to data released by the Economic Development Board on Thursday.
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, overall manufacturing output dipped 0.4 percent in May. However, excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew 0.7 percent.
Transport engineering led the year-on-year gains among the clusters, soaring 25.6 percent. Within this cluster, the aerospace segment surged 43.6 percent, supported by increased production of aircraft parts and a rise in maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities from commercial airlines. The marine and offshore engineering segment expanded 5.3 percent, attributed to higher activity levels at shipyards.
Other clusters that recorded year-on-year growth included precision engineering, biomedical manufacturing, electronics, and chemicals.
In contrast, the general manufacturing cluster posted a year-on-year decline.
