Malaysia has cut grid access charges for trading renewable energy by as much as 40 percent under two programs.

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) said in a statement on Friday that in line with the implementation of the new electricity tariff schedule starting July 1, a review and adjustment of the existing system access charge (SAC) and community access charge (CAC) rates have been made, taking into account tariff schedule components and values to ensure fair rates without double counting.

The CAC under the Community Renewable Energy Aggregation Mechanism (CREAM) was reduced to 9 sen (0.021 U.S. dollars) per kWh, from 15 sen per kWh.

Meanwhile, the SAC under the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) was cut to 20 sen per kWh from 25 sen per kWh for firm supply, and to 40 sen per kWh from 45 sen per kWh for non-firm supply.
