The second 400,000-metric-ton ore terminal at Qingdao Port, part of Shandong Port Group, began operations on Oct 27. With this, Qingdao Port has become the first of its kind in China to operate an intelligent 400,000-ton dry bulk terminal and the first in North China to operate two 400,000-ton ore terminals.



This achievement not only signifies a new leap forward for Qingdao Port's hub capacity and the Qingdao International Shipping Center but also sets a new benchmark for the construction and operation of ultra-large dry bulk terminals in China. It plays a crucial role in supporting the transformation and upgrading of China's port industry.


The second 400,000-ton ore terminal is located in the Dongjiakou port area. Construction officially began in December 2022, and the terminal features a 300,000-ton iron ore berth, two 3,500-ton/hour ship unloaders, and a 10,500-ton/hour belt conveyor system. Additionally, supporting facilities include a 290,000-square-meter front storage yard and a 1.02-million-square-meter rear-end storage yard. Once completed, the terminal will increase the port's annual capacity by 16 million tons and its storage capacity by 10 million tons, reinforcing a solid "maritime safety barrier" for the national energy.


Notably, the newly commissioned terminal is China's first intelligent 400,000-ton bulk terminal. It integrates advanced technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing, enabling real-time monitoring, intelligent decision-making, and digital perception throughout the entire production and operation process. Equipped with the most advanced and intelligent dry bulk handling equipment, the terminal sets a new example for the transformation of port operations from "traditional operations" to "smart services".

According to port operators, Dongjiakou port area's first 400,000-ton ore terminal received its first 400,000-ton carrier in 2015, marking the beginning of the "mega vessel era" for dry bulk cargo operations among Chinese ports. By September 2025, it had handled over 460 vessel calls, with an aggregate cargo volume of 160 million tons, maintaining a leading position among coastal ports nationwide.


Today, with two 400,000-ton ore terminals enabling multimodal transportation via sea, land, and rail for cargo collection and distribution, the port will further increase its capacity to serve the transportation of bulk commodities nationwide and safeguard the stability of China's industrial value and supply chains.

山东港口青岛港第二座40万吨矿石码头正式投产

10月27日,山东港口青岛港第二座40万吨矿石码头正式投产,标志着青岛港成为全国首个拥有40万吨干散货数智码头、北方首个拥有双40万吨矿石码头配置的港口。这不仅是青岛港枢纽能级、青岛国际航运中心建设的新跨越,更是我国超大型干散货码头建设与运营的新高峰,对推动我国港口行业转型升级具有重要意义。


据了解,青岛港第二座40万吨矿石码头,位于董家口港区,2022年12月正式开工,建设1个30万吨级铁矿石泊位,现配备2台3500吨/小时卸船机、1条10500吨/小时皮带流程,配套建成前方堆场29万平方米、后方堆场102万平方米。投产运营后,将新增码头通过能力1600万吨/年、提升堆存能力1000万吨,为保障国家能源资源安全筑牢“海上屏障”。


值得关注的是,此次投产的新码头,是全国首个40万吨干散货数智码头,集成5G、人工智能、云计算等前沿技术,将实现全流程生产经营过程的实时监测、智慧决策和数字化感知。同时,码头将配备最先进、最智能的干散货专业设备,将树立从“传统作业”向“智慧服务”转型的新范式。


据悉,2015年,董家口港区首座40万吨矿石码头接卸首艘40万吨级大船,开启了中国港口干散货作业的“大船时代”,截至2025年9月接卸数量超460艘次,总量达1.6亿吨,持续领跑全国沿海港口。如今,两座40万吨矿石码头实现海、陆、铁三路集疏港,将进一步强化服务国家大宗物资运输的能力水平,保障国家产业链供应链稳定。
