European Chamber Delegation Meets Anhui Party Secretary and Governor
On 19th September, a European Chamber delegation participated in the Anhui New Industries and Transnational Corporations Matchmaking Conference in Hefei. The delegation met with senior Anhui officials, including Party Secretary Liang Yanshun, Governor Wang Qingxian and Vice Governor Sun Yong.
Carlo D’Andrea, vice president of the Chamber and chair of the Shanghai Chapter, addressed the conference. D’Andrea highlighted the opportunities and challenges faced by European companies in the region. He noted that Anhui is experiencing strong economic growth, but market access barriers, infringements of intellectual property rights and regulatory hurdles prevent European businesses from fully realising their investment potential.

Exclusive Meeting with Huangpu Vice Mayor Shen Danna
On 12th September, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter held an exclusive meeting with Ms Shen Danna, Vice Mayor of Huangpu District.
The Chamber’s delegation addressed important issues related to SMEs, ESG, and talent attraction, while recognising Hunagpu’s efforts to tackle them to further attract European businesses.
Vice Mayor Shen Danna acknowledged the concerns, remaining keen to follow up and continue the collaboration with the Shanghai Chapter and its members.

Meeting with the China Quality Supervising and Test Centre for Gas Appliances
On 17th September 2025, 11 ECHI member company delegates joined a closed-door industry dialogue with the Director of China Quality Supervising and Test Centre for Gas Appliances (CGAC) at the China Gas Appliance Annual Conference in Shenyang, Liao Ning Province.
ECHI members gathered to seek updates and exchange information on the revision of Energy Efficiency GB Standard 20665. The Chamber secretariat presented the current members' significant concerns to the CGAC, and a discussion was held among the industry representatives with the CGAC.

Sika Factory Tour and SH Construction Forum Meeting – Business Opportunities in Urban Renewal
On 16th September, Construction Forum in Shanghai organised a factory tour to Sika’s R&D Centre in Suzhou. Members had a comprehensive tour around the Sika Suzhou site, held a working group meeting on business opportunities in urban renewal, and had a work lunch hosted by Sika.

CSR Forum Session on Non-Authority Influence
On 15th September 2025, the CSR Forum Shanghai hosted a practical training on non-authority influence with its members. Through icebreakers, small group work and role play, participants explored how to secure cooperation across functions, when different influence approaches work best, and four development pathways to build everyday influence skills. The session used real workplace scenarios and gave participants tools they can apply immediately.

Information Sharing and Updates on Recent Chamber Advocacy Actions on China’s Export Controls on Rare Earth Elements
On 11th September, the Export Control Task Force held an online information-sharing session regarding the recent advocacy efforts by the European Chamber concerning China’s export controls on rare earth elements. Attendees also participated in a survey to assess members’ current status on export control licence applications, and next steps for the task force were discussed.

Shanghai Launch of European Business in China Position Paper 2025/2026
On 18th September, the Shanghai Chapter launched the national Position Paper, the Chamber’s flagship report outlining over 1141 recommendations to enhance conditions for European businesses operating in China.
Carlo d’Andrea, European Chamber Vice-President and Shanghai Chair, provided an insightful overview of the review of the 14th Five-Year Plan (5YP) and highlighted recommendations for the upcoming 15th 5YP. Panelists shared their key insights regarding their sector’s progress over the past five years, as well as some thoughts about the future of their sector in China.

European Chamber 25th Anniversary Shanghai Celebration Dinner
On 9th September 2025, the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (European Chamber) hosted its Shanghai Celebration Dinner, marking the 25th anniversary of the European Chamber’s establishment in China. Overall, the dinner hosted around 280 participants, including 72 Chinese officials, alongside 20 Consuls General.
Following opening remarks from Carlo D’Andrea, Vice-President and Shanghai Chair of the European Chamber, Jens Eskelund, President of the European Chamber, delivered a keynote speech emphasising how vital Shanghai is for global trade. Danish Ambassador Starbæk Christensen delivered a speech highlighting the importance of maintaining a balanced and healthy relationship between Europe and China. Finally, Director-General Zhu Min stated that the Shanghai government will persist in promoting high-level opening-up and services to enterprises to offer greater certainty for international investment.

[SBA series event] Sustainable Supply Chain Conference: Crafting Resilient and Circular Green Supply Chains for a Connected World
On 4th September 2025, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter hosted the Sustainable Supply Chain Conference under the theme “Crafting Resilient and Circular Green Supply Chains for a Connected World”.
The event brought together government representative, business leaders, and sustainability experts including 2024 SBA winner to share strategies and best practices for building supply chains that prioritise responsibility, resilience, and efficiency.

as Review Begins
The 2025 Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) has received a record-breaking 78 applications from 40 companies, marking an unprecedented level of interest and commitment to sustainable business practices in China. This remarkable response reflects the growing momentum of businesses driving positive environmental and social impact across diverse industries.
We are now moving into the review stage, where a panel of expert judges will carefully evaluate the submissions. Stay tuned for upcoming milestones, including the announcement of finalists in mid-November and the SBA Conference and Ceremony on 11th December, where outstanding achievements in sustainability will be celebrated.
