Visit to Nantong and Dialogue with the Mayor of Nantong - Discovering Nantong’s Marine Industry
On 21st August 2025, the European Chamber participated in the event themed ‘Connecting Rivers and Seas Pursuing the Marine Dream with Europe – 2025 Visit to Nantong by Leading European Marine Industry Enterprises’ hosted by Nantong city.
Nantong Municipal Vice Mayor Li Ling together with relevant government departments including the municipal Ocean Bureau hosted a European Chamber delegation led by the National Vice President (VP) and Shanghai Chapter Board Chair Carlo D’Andrea. The delegation was composed of the Nanjing Chapter Board Chair Shan Jianhua, Nanjing Chapter Board Vice Chair Andreas Risch, along with over 30 member companies from both chapters.

Shanghai Chapter Chair Carlo d’Andrea Participates at the EU-China Business Summit
On 24th July, the EU-China Business Summit was held with European and Chinese CEOs. President of the Commission Von der Leyen and Premier Li Qiang attended the summit.
Carlo d’Andrea, Vice President of the European Chamber and Chair of the Board of the Shanghai Chapter, was invited to speak and addressed issues faced by European SMEs navigating the business landscape in China. He highlighted the opportunities China offers, but also the challenges European SMEs encounter, particularly regarding late payments, access to finance, and the financial burden.

Shanghai Chapter Chair Meets with Vice Premier of Italy and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport
On 11th July, Mr Carlo d’Andrea, Vice-President of the European Chamber and Chair of the Shanghai Chapter, had the honour of meeting with the Vice Premier of Italy and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, for a constructive and forward-looking dialogue.
Discussions focused on the pressing challenges currently facing European companies, particularly in the context of ongoing tariff negotiations. Vice Premier Salvini emphasised the strategic importance of sustained investment across Europe, underlining the need for European enterprises to remain globally competitive. He also highlighted the critical role of modern, integrated infrastructure in enhancing connectivity across the continent and supporting long-term economic resilience.

On 4th July, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter held an exclusive meeting with Wu Jianyong, Party Secretary and Director General of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice. This is the highest level of engagement with China’s legal sector that the Chamber has ever established.

On 12th August 2025, the Europe-China Heating Initiative (ECHI) submitted the first batch of comments on the current revision of the GB 20665 Draft Revisions to the Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Grades for Domestic Gas Instantaneous Water Heaters and Gas-Fired Heating and Hot Water Combi-Boilers to the Standardization Administration of the People’s Republic of China, SAC, which under the supervision of SAMR.

CSR Forum Chair met with the EU Delegation representative on Green Transition
On 6th August, CSR Forum Chair Ms. Cindy Zhang represented the forum in a discussion with Mr. Bart van der Meer, Green Transition Counsellor from the Delegation of the European Union to China, during his visit to Shanghai. The discussion centered on the development of clean technology in China, the market conditions for European clean technology companies in China, and models for collaboration between European and Chinese firms.

On 5th August, the Europe-China Heating Initiative (ECHI) joined the second technical exchange session on the current revision of the GB 20665 Draft Revisions to the Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Grades for Domestic Gas Instantaneous Water Heaters and Gas-Fired Heating and Hot Water Combi-Boilers with nearly 15 participants selected nationwide.

Energy Working group submitted comments to the NDRC on Notice on the Issuance of the 'Catalog of Products Subject to Energy Efficiency Labeling in the People's Republic of China (2025 Edition)' and Related Implementation Rules (Draft for Comment)
On 1st August, the Energy Working group recommended that the implementation date of that the Draft Implementation Rules for Energy Efficiency Labeling of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors be postponed to October 1, 2026. The group also recommended that the requirement “products manufactured or imported before the effective date must still apply the new energy efficiency label two years later.” be deleted.

Heating Desk joined the Policy Debriefings and Exchange Sessions with SAMR Representatives on the Management Measures for the Adoption of International Standards and the Administrative Measures for National Standardisation Guiding Technical Documents on Gas-Fired Hot Water Combi-Boilers
On 29th July, 31st July and 1st August, the Europe-China Heating Initiative (ECHI) joined the exchange sessions on the current revision of the GB 20665 Draft Revisions to the Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Grades for Domestic Gas Instantaneous Water Heaters and Gas-Fired Heating and Hot Water Combi-Boilers with each sessions with nearly 80 participants nationwide in Jinan, Shandong Province.
ECHI members joined the session in parallel with other product kick-off sessions for Heat Hump Heaters, Boilers, and electric boilers. We expressed our concerns about the standards revision work and the need for a clear exchange in a technical setting, referring to the EU ErP and current product testing GB standards, and capacity-relevant stakeholders. Further necessary EU-China standards-related exchange can be conducted and planned once the roadmap is communicated.

Heating Desk joined the SAMR GB 20665 Revision Kick-off Session
On 17th July, the 10 delegates from the Europe-China Heating Initiative (ECHI) participated in the kick-off session for revising GB 20665. The kick-off session introduced the process and revision challenges, as well as the purpose of the revisions, for the Minimum Allowable Values of Energy Efficiency and Energy Efficiency Grades for Domestic Gas Instantaneous Water Heaters and Gas-Fired Heating and Hot Water Combi-Boilers.

Pharmaceutical Working Group met with Shanghai Municipal Health Commission
On 15th July, the European Chamber’s Pharmaceutical Working Group held an exclusive closed-door meeting with Di Jianzhong, Deputy Director-General of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission. The Chamber delegation was led by Carol Liu, National Chair of the Pharmaceutical Working Group, marking the first high-level formal meeting between the two sides.

On 11th July, Healthcare Equipment Working Group submitted feedback to National Medical Products Administration on Guidelines for the Implementation of Self-Inspection Management for Medical Device Registration. The feedback involves implementation arrangements, regulatory terms and system specifications, laboratory qualification and inspection requirements, personnel and equipment management.

R&D Working Group organised factory tour to FUCHS Shanghai
On 9th July, the R&D Working Group organised a visit tour to FUCHS Shanghai. Members had a comprehensive tour around the FUCHS laboratories, held a working group meeting on challenges and opportunities of localising R&D in China, and had a work dinner hosted by FUCHS.

On 2nd July, Legal and Competition Working Group and Compliance and Business Ethics Working Group submitted comments to the State Administration of Market Regulation on Announcement on Public Consultation for Provisions on Prohibiting Monopoly Agreements (Draft for Comments). The group believes that the current wording of the Draft for Comments can be further refined to ensure the proposed safe harbour rules are more effective in practice.

Sustainable Business Awards 2025 Information Session and Q&A
On 28th August, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter, in collaboration with its Sustainable Business Awards (SBA) knowledge partner SynTao Consulting, held an online information and Q&A session for the 2025 SBA.
During the meeting, Jilai Peng, General Manager and Partner of SynTao Consulting at the Beijing Office, gave an overview of the 2025 SBA presenting the award categories, the evaluation process and the assessment methodology.

Typical Labour Relations Adjustment Cases Analysis in 2025: Reshaping New Values through Communication
On 27th August, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter hosted an event on labour relations adjustment case studies.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Dr Ioana Kraft, Chair of the Human Resources Working Group. This was followed by the keynote speech by Alex Xing, Managing Partner at LABOURS. After a short coffee break, the discussion continued with a deep dive into communication empowerment, focusing on risk prevention and approaches to resolving disputes related to mental illness cases.

Diving Into CAI: Impact on EU-China Trade Relations
On 10th July, the European Chamber Shanghai Chapter held a webinar to explore the role of the Comprehensive Agreement on Investment (CAI) in EU-China Trade Relations.
Michele Geraci, Former Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Economic Development in Italy delivered the first keynotespeech, sharing his perspective on EU-China relations, providing insights on the broader political and trade framework. This was followed by Luisa Kinzius, director at Sinolytics, who outlined EU and China’s mutual trade pain points ahead of the EU-China Summit.
The event continued with two panel discussions. The first panel explored the macroeconomic and policy views on CAI, exploring topics such as overcapacity, market access, and legitimate investment practices.
The second panel delved into the impact of CAI at the business and company levels, focusing on trade and investment.
