On October 14, 2025, the Rwanda Standards Board proposed to develop a standard for chili oil (DEAS 1267:2025), with a feedback period open until December 14, 2025.
The main contents include:
(1) Scope and definitions;
(2) General requirements. Chili oil may contain extracts of fruits, garlic, ginger, onions, and other spices, as well as salt and sugar; with indicators such as acid value ≤ 4.0 (KOH) (mg/g) and volatile oil ≤ 2%;
(3) Microbial and contaminant limits for chili oil;
(4) Labeling. The product name shall be "Chili Oil"; ingredient list (in descending order); name and address of the manufacturer or packer; batch number; production date; net weight; country of origin; storage conditions; allergens; and shelf life.
