My beautiful country, the Republic of South Africa has recently celebrated 31 years of democracy. South Africa is a vibrant and dynamic country offering business and tourists alike richly diverse opportunities to explore and experience. In 2025 we are celebrating 27years of diplomatic relations between South Africa and the People’s Republic of China. Our relations with China have grown from strength to strength. From a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’ in 2010 to an ‘All-round Strategic Cooperative Partnership in the New Era’ in 2024.-China has remained the largest trading partner of South Africa for over a decade. South Africa is China’s biggest trading partner in Africa, with bilateral trade accounting for more than 20% of the total China-Africa trade.-South Africa has one of the most open economies in the world (ratio of exports and imports to GDP exceeds 58%). Preferential access to numerous global markets.

South Africa is the Continent’s financial hub and home to the JSE(Johannesburg Stock Exchange), Africa’s largest stock exchange by market capitalisation.

We host UN Mandela Day activities in partnership with Aspen, A south African Pharmaceutical company headquartered in Shanghai,-South African high-end fashion designers made waves at the Shanghai Fashion Week in April 2025-We hosted a heritage event to have the Chinese business community and potential tourist to taste the South African cuisine and our best wines.-September marks both Heritage and Tourism month in South Africa, and we hold annual Tourism roadshows in partnership with South African Tourism. We use this platform to do match making between South African and Chinese tour operators.

China is one of the world’s largest outbound tourism markets, demonstrating strong recovery, vast potential, and high-value travelers. East China represents a strategic outbound tourism market, with strong regional demand and growing connectivity, offering significant opportunities for South Africa to expand its reach.
South Africa is well-positioned to capture this opportunity by aligning products with Chinese traveler preferences, tailoring experiences, and addressing travel barriers.
South Africa launched the Trusted Tour Operator Schemefive months ago. The TTOS is designed to introduce convenient visa applications for Chinese tourists through accredited tour operators. from February to July 2025, over 10,000 visa applications have been processed from China through TTOS, with outcomes delivered within hours.
South Africa recognizes the importance of engaging with Chinese travelers through digital platforms that resonate with their habits and preferences. We have actively collaborated with popular platforms like Douyin, Rednote, and Weibo.We-chat and video channels to showcase the diverse experiences South Africa has to offer.
The hosting of the G20 Summit will go a long way in strengthening the Meetings, incentives,conference and exhibitions(MICE) tourism sector’s contribution to economic growth and job creation numbers. This year marks a historic year as it will be the first time that the African continent will host the G20 Summit, under the theme Solidarity,Equality, Sustainability.

Standing atop the observation deck of the Shanghai Tower, China's tallest skyscraper, one is not only treated to a sweeping view of this vibrant metropolis but also gains a profound appreciation for Shanghai's remarkable urban evolution over the past century, as if witnessing the city's dynamic transformation unfold in real time. Shanghai is breathtaking as one of the best metropolises I have encountered thus far in the world. It has been a marvel to witness modern China, which embodies its historical self, a perfectly balanced archiving of the Chinese heritage.
当我站在中国第一高楼上海中心之巅，俯瞰这座生机勃勃的都市时，不仅领略到恢宏的城市画卷，更真切感受到上海近百年来的卓越城市演进——那些流动的城市变迁仿佛在眼前实时展开。上海堪称惊艳，是我迄今游历全球都市中所遇最令人惊叹的都会之一。现代中国在此完美延续着历史文脉，实现了中华文明传承与发展的精妙平衡，这般景象始终令我叹为观止。

7.You have participated in events hosted by CGC. Do you have any suggestions or guidance for CGC’s future development and planning?您曾多次参与CGC的活动，对于商会未来的发展与规划有何建议？
It is always a pleasure and essential to be part of the CGC activities, we are always on the go as head of missions-from receiving high-level to attending to our daily diplomatic duties and chriss-crossing our area of jurisdiction. In between this never-ending to-do list, a winding down moment and light catching up with fellow diplomats sometimes serve as a relaxation technique for me, and thanks to CGC for hosting all these events. I believe events hosted by CGC are always well thought of and perfectly organized.

South africa is dearly known as the "Rainbow Nation", and emphasis on the country's diversity, multiculturalism, and unity. It consists of many cultures and identities, inclusive of indigenous groups such as Sotho, Khoisan, Zulu, Pedi, Tshwana, Xhosa, alongside descendants of European ancestry; people of Indian descent, Southeast Asian descent (Cape Malay), and people of mixed-race (Coloured) ancestry.
