On September 29th, H.E. He Rulong, Chinese Ambassador to Iceland and his wife held a reception at the Embassy of China in Iceland to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Headed by H.E. Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Ministrer for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, approximately 300 guests from all walks of life attended the reception, including Sif Gunnarsdóttir, the Secretary General of the Office of the President of Iceland, Benedikt Árnason, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister of Iceland, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of overseas Chinese and Chinese students in Iceland.
In his remarks, Ambassador He reviewed China’s remarkable achievements in the past 76 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China and its significant contributions to world peace and development. He also expounded on the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, emphasizing that an open China will bring more cooperation opportunities to Iceland and the wider world.
Minister Gunnarsdóttir congratulated China on its 76th National Day, wished the upcoming Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing a complete success, and expressed hope that President Halla Tómasdóttir's visit to China for the Meeting would be a complete success.
The reception kicked off with members of SöngskólinnDomus Vox singing the national anthems of both China and Iceland, followed by an Icelandic song Þannig týnist tíminn performed by the exchange students from Beijing Foreign Studies University. A photo exhibition on the progress of women's cause in China was also featured during the reception, which was immersed in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
