Whether you’re in a hurry for daily commuting or want to stand out on a date outing, mastering these eyelook techniques will help you easily create charming "electric eyes"—no more envying others’ "divine eyelooks"!
Step 1: Choose the Right Eyeshadow Palette & Avoid "Disaster" Color Combinations
For beginners, remember the golden rule: "Neutrals are king, shimmer is secondary".
How to Apply:
Beginners only need 2-3 colors. Neutral palettes usually include 4 types of shades: base color, mood color, deepening color, and shimmer color. Follow these steps:
(1) As the name suggests, the base color is for priming the eyelids. It is usually the shade in the entire eyeshadow palette that is closest to your skin tone. Use it to apply color all over the eyelids.
(2) The mood color, which is slightly darker than the base color, sets the tone for the entire eyelook and also reduces eye puffiness. Use a lighter shade of the mood color to deepen the inner crease of the double eyelids and the outer corner of the lower lash line.
(3) Use a darker shade of the mood color to deepen the outer corners of both the upper and lower lash lines. This not only helps to make the eyes look larger but also makes them more expressive.
(4) The deepening color is the darkest shade in the entire eyeshadow palette. Apply it in a small area along the root of the eyelashes—this creates a smooth transition between the upcoming eyeliner and the eyeshadow, avoiding a harsh finish. At the same time, you can also use it to create under-eye definition and deepen the contour of the eye bags.
(5) Use the brightest shade in the eyeshadow palette as a highlighting color. Apply it to highlight the eye bags and the front section of the eyelids, enhancing the three-dimensionality of the eyes.
Step 2: How to Do Eyeliner? A Smooth Technique Even Beginners Can Master
Eyeliner is the soul of an eyelook, but many beginners struggle with shaky hands. Try this trick:
1. Choose the Right Tool
Beginners are recommended to use an eyeliner pencil. It’s easier to control the shape and thickness, and glides more smoothly. (Eyeliner liquid pens, though...)
2. Application Steps
(1) Start with the outer half of the lash line: Gently pull back to draw a short 2mm line.
(2) Connect from the middle of the lash line to the outer corner, filling in the gap.
(3) Finally, lightly draw from the inner corner to the middle to create a natural tight line.
3. Pro Tip
If your hands shake, rest your elbow on the table and your hand on your cheek to reduce movement. For mistakes, use a cotton swab dipped in lotion to fix it easily.
Step 3: How to Apply Mascara for Clump-Free, Defined Lashes
Clumpy lashes look terrible! Master this trick to get "sunflower lashes" (full, separated lashes):
Product Selection
Choosing the right mascara products is key to great lashes. For example:
If you’re Asian, opt for Asian-brand mascaras and lash curlers. Compared to Western luxury brands, Asian-designed products fit Asian eye shapes and lash density better.
If you’re Western, choose Western brands—they’re tailored to Western lash types. Simply put, brands in each region are customized for local users.
Prep Before Application
Wipe off excess product from the mascara wand with a tissue. Too much product not only causes clumps but also smudges your already-done base makeup—or worse, gets into your eyes.
Application Steps
Curl your lashes first. Place the lashes between the two curler pads, gently squeeze at the roots for 3-5 seconds, then slowly move the curler toward the tips, holding for 1-2 seconds at each position. (Never pinch your eyelids—it will hurt!)
Apply mascara in a "Z" motion from the roots upward. For lower lashes, hold the wand vertically and lightly sweep.
For a thicker effect: After the first coat dries, curl the lash roots again, then apply a second coat.
