Guangzhou (JLC), September 23, 2025--China's apparent consumption of gasoline rose for the third consecutive month in August 2025 amid increasing production.
The apparent consumption of gasoline (production + imports - exports) settled at about 12.63 million mt in the month, with the daily volume standing at 3.56 million barrels, up 2.64% from July, the calculations show, based on data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the General Administration of Customs of the PRC (GACC), and a conversion rate of 8.73 when translating mt into barrels.
Domestic gasoline output in August also went up for three months in a row. China produced a total of 13.48 million mt of gasoline in the month, a climb of 1.80% from the previous month, the NBS data indicates.
Additionally, gasoline exports declined in the month, also contributing to the gain in apparent consumption. The country's gasoline exports were 847,538 mt in August, falling by 9.25% month on month, according to the GACC data.
On a year-on-year comparison, however, the apparent consumption dropped by 2.42% in August.
In the first eight months of this year, China's apparent consumption of gasoline amounted to 97.20 million mt, with the daily consumption down by 4.83% year on year to 3.49 million barrels, the calculations also show.
