Guangzhou (JLC), October 22, 2025--China's daily apparent consumption of diesel in September 2025 climbed to this year's highest, mainly driven up by recovering domestic demand.
The apparent consumption of diesel (production + imports - exports) settled at about 16.95 million mt in the month, with the daily volume averaging 4.18 million barrels, the highest since December 2024, the calculations show, based on data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the General Administration of Customs of the PRC (GACC), and a conversion rate of 7.4 when translating mt into barrels.
The daily consumption increased by 8.64% month on month and 2.11% year on year.
Contributing to the month-on-month growth, Chinese refiners raised their diesel output while reducing exports on account of recovering domestic demand after the fishing moratorium ended and the traditional peak season kicked off.
The country's diesel output was 17.42 million mt in September, with the daily production gaining 5.51% month on month to 4.30 million barrels, the NBS data indicates. At the same time, the country's diesel exports were 509,774 mt, with the daily volume diving by 43.71% to 125,744 barrels, the GACC data shows.
China's apparent consumption of diesel totaled 142.03 million mt in January-September 2025, with the daily volume slipping 0.89% year on year to 3.85 million barrels, the calculations indicate.
