Look, that's half price! It's cheaper if you've got a loyalty card! Oh, and there's a buy-one-get-one-free offer!

We all love deals when we go shopping. They can be hard to resist — and that's exactly why England has banned larger stores from offering some deals on unhealthy products.

The idea is to help people — and especially children — to stay healthy.

Supermarkets will not be allowed to offer things like buy-one-get-one-free deals on a number of products that are high in sugar, salt and fat.

There are many different products on the government's list, and some are less healthy than others.

The new rules apply to things like sodas, chocolate bars and chips. But they also apply to some healthier alternatives, including chips made from lentils, cereal bars and juices with added sugar.

Pizzas, flavored yogurts and "ready meals" — meals that don't need any more preparation before being cooked or heated — are also included.

The rules will only apply to shops with 50 or more employees. Smaller stores will still be able to offer deals like these to their customers.

Some free drink refills in restaurants have also been banned as part of the new rules.

It's said that the government has been planning this for a few years but had not made any changes until now because of the high cost of living.

Some say that these deals don't actually save people money; they encourage them to spend more on things that they may not need.

There are also new advertising rules. From the start of 2026, companies in the UK will not be able to advertise foods high in sugar, salt and fat on TV before 9 p.m.

And companies won't be able to advertise them online at all from January next year.
