4.CPCA's Cui Dongshu: Passenger Vehicle Promotions and Downward Repositioning Return to Rationality in 2025, Market Order Significantly Improved
Cui Dongshu, Secretary General of the CPCA, stated today that both promotions and downward repositioning in the passenger vehicle industry returned to a rational level in 2025, leading to a noticeable improvement in market order. The scale of price reductions for new models in January-September 2025 was relatively moderate, affecting 148 models. The current price competition primarily involves newly launched vehicles directly setting a lower price floor than the previous models, rather than following the pattern of adding features without reducing the price. In September, only one model was directly reduced in price, underscoring that the strategy of launching a new car with improved features at a lower price point is the preferred method for boosting cost-effectiveness. In September 2025, the total number of models with price reductions was 23, which was stable compared to August. Among these, there were 7 fuel-powered vehicles, an increase of 2 models compared to the 5 in August 2025; 2 hybrid fuel vehicles; 5 plug-in hybrid vehicles, an increase from the previous month; 2 extended-range EVs, also an increase from the previous month; and 7 pure EVs, a decrease of 7 models from the 14 in the previous month.
