On July 17, 2025, Taiwan’s National Immigration Agency announced new adjustments to its entry policy. While most foreign nationals and Hong Kong/Macau residents may enter for tourism, what about travelers from Mainland China? Who is eligible, and what are the requirements? Here’s a clear breakdown:

Students – Studying abroad or in Hong Kong/Macau.

Permanent Residents – Already hold permanent residence status overseas or in Hong Kong/Macau.

Dependent Residents with Savings – Hold dependent residence abroad and can show proof of savings of at least TWD 100,000 (kept in the account for over one month).

Working Abroad for Over a Year – Lived and worked abroad (or in Hong Kong/Macau) for at least one year with valid employment proof.

Accompanying Family Members – Spouses or second-degree relatives (by blood) of the above categories, provided they also reside abroad or in Hong Kong/Macau.

Application form – Completed online or on paper. -
Travel documents – Mainland China passport or Hong Kong/Macau travel documents (valid for at least 6 months). Applicants who have obtained foreign nationality but still hold Mainland Chinese status must also provide proof of foreign nationality.

2-inch coloured Photo – Taken within the last two years, white background, head length (top of head to chin) between 3.2 and 3.6 cm.

Supporting Documents (depending on eligibility category) –
(1) Students – Valid student ID or enrollment certificate issued within the past 3 months + re-entry visa.
(2) Overseas Permanent Residents – Proof of permanent residency abroad.
(3) Hong Kong/Macau Permanent Residency – Hong Kong or Macau permanent resident ID card, or Hong Kong/Macau passport with at least 6 months’ validity.
(4) Dependent Residents with Savings – Proof of dependent residency + bank statement issued within the past month showing a balance of at least TWD100,000 maintained for one month or longer.
(5) Working Abroad for Over a Year – Entry/exit record for the past year or government-issued proof of legal stay abroad + work permit + employment certificate from the past 3 months.
(6) Accompanying Family Members (spouse or second-degree relatives) – Proof of dependent residency abroad + proof of family relationship, such as a marriage certificate or birth certificate.
(7) Other relevant supporting documents as applicable.
