The Results
We are delighted to share that three YCIS Shanghai students achieved outstanding results in this year's IGCSE: Masaki (Puxi) received the ‘Top in World’ award for Mandarin as a Foreign Language, Rui Xi (Pudong) earned Top in China in Global Perspectives, and Ana (Pudong) earned Top in China in World Literature.
Why It Matters
With hundreds of thousands of candidates each year, only a small number of students achieve these distinctions each year. These achievements reflect years of sustained effort, supported by a rigorous and carefully structured curriculum.
Academic Rigour,
Built Over Years
These results were years in the making. Most of our IGCSE achievers have spent many years at YCIS Shanghai. Many of our IGCSE high achievers have studied at YCIS Shanghai for several years, with some joining the school in their early years. Their academic abilities have developed progressively throughout their time at the school.
Academics and Whole
-Person Growth, Hand in Hand
For Rui Xi, service learning — sign language, the Lilitime Coffee project, the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award — broadened her global perspective alongside her outstanding academic achievement of 11 A* grades. Ana's path ran through the World Scholar's Cup (from Asia to the Yale Tournament of Champions), the John Locke Essay Competition (finalist among 100,800+ entrants), student leadership and theatre — all of which shaped her voice as a writer. And Masaki, our Top in World for Mandarin Foreign Language, has thrown himself into school life too: he's in the drumline CCA, a standout performer in Drama, and achieved excellent results in his LAMDA examinations. Since arriving, he has been actively embracing Chinese culture — signing up for a Shanghainese culture CCA to immerse himself in local life. For all three, their experiences inside and outside the classroom have complimented and enriched one another — academics and whole-person development grew together.

Deep Roots, Far Reach
East and West Together — Their learning has taken them far — from China across Asia to Yale. Underpinning it all is YCIS's East-meets-West approach: all three students point to intercultural understanding and empathy as the real key to their success.
What It Shows
These honours say something about what YCIS stands for: academic excellence alongside meaningful personal development. From their early years at YCIS through to the IGCSE years, and from service learning to academic competitions and the stage, our students' abilities grew steadily over many years. Congratulations to Masaki, Rui Xi and Ana —their achievements reflect the opportunities that a YCIS education can provide.
