Oct 19 – 25 Weekly Shipping Market Update

Oct 19 – 25 Weekly Shipping Market Update 广东航易通国际物流有限公司
2026-10-19
3
Overview:
In late October, Southeast Asia space remains tight on Thailand lanes amid mid-gap blank sailings, while other lanes see stabilized rates and more available space. US & Canada lanes stay tight with high-level rate volatility as Black Friday tail-end shipments continue — USWC premium space remains tight, while USEC remains the most unstable lane under ongoing Panama Canal transit restrictions. Europe saw a modest pullback from carriers' announced hike levels, while the East Med stays elevated with limited downside into month-end. Australia & NZ rates have eased from pre-holiday levels with ample East Coast space. Middle East & Red Sea: capacity is ample and rates likely roll over or drift slightly lower, though severe congestion at Khor Fakkan is stretching transit times. Our advice: lock space early on US & Canada lanes with a 7–10 day buffer for IPI cargo; book early for promotional space in Europe & Med; book two weeks ahead for West Australia, South Pacific and North Australia. Full regional breakdown below.

🌏 Southeast Asia: mid-gap blank sailings tighten Thailand space

Thailand:
Space overall tight amid mid-gap blank sailings. From Shanghai, rates edged up modestly — prioritize SITC (wide sailing options, reliable service). From Ningbo, rates are largely rolled over with ample space available as planned. NBOS adds a new direct sailing on its Thailand service, co-shared with RCL, calling direct at Bangkok and Laem Chabang — expanded capacity, generous destination free time, and guaranteed booking support.

Vietnam:

For lower rates, watch CNC / MSK; COSCO / OOCL are preferred on Hai Phong.

Indonesia:

Rates held through end of month. Dense Jakarta sailings and added direct Surabaya calls remove transshipment dependence; space is looser than earlier and carriers are actively soliciting cargo — book ahead.

Philippines:

Rates flat with space starting to improve, but destination port congestion and schedule slippage persist; for remote inland points, prioritize SITC (best value, ample space, reliable schedules).

Singapore & Malaysia:
Rates have stabilized. EMC vertical-channel space is recommended — provide shipment plans and pre-block space early. Singapore remains tight, with acceptance of small and heavy boxes still difficult.

💡 Our advice: Thailand space is tight amid gap-period blank sailings — ship from Shanghai via SITC and from Ningbo as planned; confirm Singapore small/heavy boxes early; take advantage of looser space in Indonesia and the Philippines.

🇺🇸 US : rates hold firm at elevated levels, tight balance continues

Black Friday tail-end shipments continue. Space remains tight with rates fluctuating at high levels and no meaningful downside; carriers keep managing capacity to defend rates, with blank sailings and minor schedule adjustments now routine.

US West Coast:

Schedules are relatively stable, but premium/fast-vessel space remains tight. Spot and urgent cargo commands a premium with overbooking risk still present — contract space is markedly more stable than spot space. Key risk: IPI inland rail car supply is tight, and inland delivery is broadly delayed — build in sufficient buffer.

US East Coast:

The most unstable lane at this stage. Panama Canal restrictions persist with unreliable schedules, port omissions and frequent delays; large volumes are diverting to USWC IPI, further squeezing space. Urgent cargo should not prioritize USEC direct calls. Canada base ports are workable, but inland transshipment is volatile with tight space — book ahead.

💡 Our advice:No last-minute bookings — lock space at least two weeks ahead; IPI cargo requires a 7–10 day buffer; prioritize USWC for time-sensitive cargo. The next two weeks remain firm, with space only gradually easing after late October.

🇪🇺 Europe & Mediterranean: hike pulls back, East Med stays elevated

Europe:

In the second half, overall rates have eased slightly from the hike levels carriers announced last week. On the PA Alliance, the FE3 service cancels its Hamburg call on the Week-43 sailing; the OA Alliance's EMC continues its single-sailing rate policy; COSCO / OOCL offer ample guaranteed space into late month, with promotional space on certain commodities that must be booked early; MSK / HPL release space quickly and multi-container rate requests are welcomed.

Mediterranean: The East Med stays elevated into late month. CUL has blank sailings in late October, with rates pending the early-November update; WHL's late-October Alexandria New Port direct service has limited remaining space — rush cargo; MSK can only book Week-44 at the earliest; the PA Alliance has severe late departures with weight restrictions on some carriers, prioritizing light cargo. In the West Med, ZIM blanks two sailings late month with end-of-month vessels fully booked (single-point spot space still available); YML/ONE's MD4 service is tight; OOCL has opened promotional consolidation. The East Med still has modest downside into late month.

💡 Our advice: The increase is yet to be tested — consider locking current spot levels; book ahead on overbooked West/East Med lanes and watch the merger and blank-sailing dates.

🇦🇺 Australia & New Zealand: rates ease, ample East Coast space

Late-October prices are down from pre-holiday levels. Australia East Coast space is currently ample, with YML / TSL extra loaders at month-end keeping supply and demand balanced. West Australia, the South Pacific and North Australia remain tight, requiring feeder transshipment with space largely booked through month-end.

💡 Our advice: Book selectively on the East Coast; plan two weeks ahead for West Australia, South Pacific and North Australia.

🔶Middle East & Red Sea: increase attempts unlikely to hold — rates likely rolled over

Middle East:

Recommended carriers for late-October bookings: ESL / MSC / COSCO / CMA / CUL / HPL / 兴亚 (Xingasia). Capacity is ample and rates are expected to roll over or drift slightly lower; all carriers are actively soliciting cargo — confirmed bookings are negotiable with possible rate surprises. Note: Khor Fakkan remains severely overloaded, with heavy vessel congestion, long truck queue times and significantly stretched transit; please remind consignees to clear arrived cargo promptly to avoid high demurrage.

Red Sea:

Direct-service recommendations for late October: CMA / WHL / PIL / COSCO / CUL; transshipment: CUL / ESL. Carriers offer ample space, but FCL inquiries remain thin and there is little momentum for increases — rates are expected to hold or drift slightly lower. Vessel swaps, port omissions and container shortages remain common; carriers will defend rates through blank sailings and service adjustments — confirm each booking individually.

⚠️ Given geopolitical developments in the Arabian Peninsula and the Gulf, allow sufficient transit-time and freight-cost buffer for all shipments.

💡 Our advice: Ample capacity — book early while rates are soft; remind consignees at Khor Fakkan to clear cargo promptly; space guarantees are handled booking by booking.
