The Malaysia Edition

其一,港口物流与绿色航运体系协同,为亚太海上供应链低碳转型提供支撑;

其二,海上能源与低碳技术合作,为传统油气国家迈向能源转型创造新空间;

其三,蓝色食品与海洋生物资源开发,为水产养殖、海洋食品和生物科技合作打开新场景;

Against the backdrop of global supply chain restructuring, accelerating energy transition, and deepening Asia-Pacific cooperation, Malaysia is emerging as an important window into the future of the ocean economy.

As a key APEC member and maritime hub in Southeast Asia, Malaysia sits at the intersection of the Strait of Malacca, the South China Sea, and the wider Indo-Pacific maritime network. It is not only a vital passage for global shipping, but also a diversified maritime economy covering port logistics, offshore energy, blue food, marine ecology, and ocean technology.

In this process, China–Malaysia cooperation is taking shape across four key areas: port logistics and green shipping, offshore energy and low-carbon technologies, blue food and marine bioresources, and marine ecological protection with digital ocean governance. The China Marine Economy Expo is becoming an important platform for connecting these opportunities and advancing practical maritime cooperation across APEC.

01

Malaysia’s strategic value begins with its geography. Located along the Strait of Malacca, one of the world’s most important maritime passages, Malaysia has developed a strong port network represented by Port Klang and the Port of Tanjung Pelepas. These ports play important roles in container transshipment, regional logistics, and supply chain connectivity.

As global shipping accelerates its decarbonization transition, Malaysia is exploring green maritime pathways across shipping, ports, bunkering, green finance, and green shipping corridors. China’s capabilities in smart ports, automated terminals, green shipbuilding, digital maritime logistics, and new energy equipment create strong complementarities with Malaysia’s maritime ambitions.

02

Malaysia has long been an important offshore oil and gas producer in Southeast Asia, with strong capabilities in LNG, offshore engineering, and energy infrastructure. At the same time, its national energy transition agenda is opening new opportunities in renewable energy, hydrogen, green mobility, and carbon capture, utilization, and storage.

This creates new space for China–Malaysia cooperation. Malaysia offers mature offshore energy scenarios and regional energy hub conditions, while China brings strong industrial capabilities in offshore energy equipment, energy storage, hydrogen technologies, green manufacturing, and marine engineering. Cooperation can expand from traditional energy trade toward low-carbon technology, offshore decarbonization, CCS infrastructure, and integrated green energy solutions.

03

Malaysia’s fisheries and aquaculture sectors are important components of its blue economy. With rising global demand for blue food, increasing pressure on capture fisheries, and growing expectations for food safety and sustainability, Malaysia’s marine food industry is entering a new stage of technology-driven, brand-oriented, and sustainable development.

China has strong capabilities in aquaculture, cold-chain logistics, seafood processing, digital farming equipment, breeding technologies, and consumer markets. Malaysia, meanwhile, offers tropical aquatic resources, coastal aquaculture conditions, marine biodiversity, and access to Southeast Asian markets. The two countries have broad potential for cooperation in smart fisheries, sustainable aquaculture, marine food processing, cold-chain systems, and marine bioresource development.

As China’s only national-level comprehensive marine economy exhibition, the China Marine Economy Expo has been steadily evolving into an important international platform connecting port economies, green shipping, marine technology, offshore equipment, blue finance, and marine ecological protection.

Against the backdrop of deepening China–Malaysia maritime cooperation, the Expo is becoming more than a display platform. It is increasingly serving as a cooperation hub for industrial matchmaking, technology exchange, project development, and long-term dialogue. With its connection to APEC and broader ocean governance agendas, CMEE can support China, Malaysia, and other Asia-Pacific economies in building more stable channels for blue economy cooperation.
