Lotus Pond Park is located in the northern part of Kunming, surrounded by tall buildings. However, inside the park are gray-tiled white walls and a canopy of green trees. Against the backdrop of the blue sky and the reflection in the lake, it appears particularly serene, providing a moment of coolness on the scorching summer days. Despite being hidden within the city, it has a rich historical heritage.

Lotus Pond Park, also known as "Cold Spring" and "Dragon Pond", dates back to the Tang and Song Dynasties and has a history of more than 1,500 years. According to historical records, during the Nanzhao Kingdom of Dali, it was a place for dignitaries to play. The king of Dali, Duan Suxing, often had the " winding stream party" form of drinking for fun.

元代,被誉为“商山攒穹” ;
明代,被誉为”龙池跃金“;
清代,被誉为”商山樵唱“;
During the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, the landscape around the Lotus Pond was listed as a must-see in Kunming. In the Ming Dynasty, the name Lotus Pond first appeared in the Dian Zhi.

During the Qing dynasty, Kunming was in turmoil, and the Lotus Pond was also in turmoil, with two stories being widely told: the story of the Lotus Pond and Chen Yuanyuan, and the story of the death of the Yongli Emperor.

According to the records, Wu Sangui spent a lot of money to build a luxurious Anfu Garden in the Lotus Pond for his beautiful concubine Cheng Yuanyuan, and the story of Chen Yuanyuan still circulates today.

The story of Zhu Yuhuang, the Yongli Emperor of the Southern Ming, is even more legendary. According to legend, after being hanged by Wu Sangui in Kunming, the Yongli Emperor was buried at the Lotus Pond, and in the 12th year of the Kangxi rebuilt the place where his ashes were buried, known as the 'Tomb of the Late Emperor'. To this day, there are inscriptions and sculptures in the Lotus Pond to commemorate this event.

盛极一时的莲花池;
As time passes and history changes, we can no longer feel the Lotus Pond in all its glory; we can no longer feel the turbulent waves of war, but we can still feel the tranquillity of the pavilions.
