湖面海拔970米
三面环山
向南汇入萨尔温江
是缅甸著名的避暑胜地
Here lies one of the clearest lakes in the world - the Inle Lake. Located in the Nyaungshwe basin of Shan Plateau, with a lake elevation of 970 meters above sea level, the lake is surrounded by mountains and flows down into the Salween River in the south. It is the second large lake and one of the most famous summer resorts in Myanmar.

当泛舟湖上时
小船穿行在水上村落间

Inle Lake is also known for its floating gardens. You will see neatly arranged vegetable gardens while boating on the lake. As the water level drops and rises, the man-made floating gardens move with the water level, and they are flexible to be moved and rearranged.

Locals call these gardens - the floating islands. There are two kinds of floating islands in Inle lake: the natural and artificial floating islands.

The naturally occurring clumps of water hyacinth, “seagrass”and other lake debris are captured by the farmer and secured in position using bamboo poles. These are driven into the deep mud at the bottom of the lake, then formed these fertile islands.

Building a village on the lake provides additional flood protection because the society already relies on floating fertile islands and the floating gardens which are used to grow vegetables. The lake is especially known for its vegetable cultivation, because of the climate and the easy access to water, vegetables can be grown all year round on Inle Lake.

There are more than 200 floating villages in Inle Lake, and the local people have developed their own fascinating culture and lifestyle that revolves around the water. Living on a lake has its benefits, such as the fishermen and farmers, they use a method of rowing that is not found in any other place on the planet. They effortlessly balance themselves upright on the precarious stern of their boats and use one leg to do the rowing and catching fish.

The Inle fishermen are famous for their unusual but highly practical boat rowing method, and they have transformed the method into an art form. That is indeed what we usually say: "art comes from life but is elevated above life".

As a country of pagodas, the Inle lake area in Myanmar also has its unique pagoda - the Phaung Daw U Pagoda. It is the largest pagoda and the most highly revered monastery in the Inle Lake area. It houses five ancient images of the Buddha that are completely covered in gold leaf, which is one of the most notable Buddhist sites in Myanmar.

The Inle lake area is renowned for its weaving industry. Burmese women produce high-quality hand-woven silk fabrics of distinctive design here. A unique fabric called lotus silk, made from the lotus plant fibers is produced only at Inle Lake and is used for weaving special robes for Buddha images.
