在距今约三亿六千万年前的古生代泥盆纪时期，

石林一带还是滇黔古海的一部分。

大约二亿八千万年前的石炭纪，

石林，开始形成。

During the Paleozoic Devonian period about 360 million years ago, the Shilin area was still part of the ancient sea of Yunnan and Guizhou. Approximately 270 million years ago - during the carboniferous period of the Paleozoic era - the region was a vast expanse of sea. 

大海中的石灰岩经过海水流动时不断冲刷，

留下了无数的溶沟和溶柱。

后来，这里的地壳不断上升和长时间的积淀，

逐渐变沧海为陆地。

Over years of movements,

the lithosphere gradually caused a retreat of the waters and the rise of the limestone landscapes. 

Due to constant erosions by the elements, the area finally developed into the present-day appearance.

 

 

石林 

Stone Forest 

石林，

形成于水，考验于火；

‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍两次被火山灰覆盖，再两次露出地面，

是一部真正的沧海桑田地质传奇。

Stone forest formed in the test of water and fire

A large number of lava from volcanoe eruption covered the limestone and the water from rainfall and underground slowly eroded the limestone surface.

It is a true geological legend of life.

远远望去，

巨大的灰黑色石剑、石峰、石柱，

昂首苍穹，直指青天，

犹如一片苍莽的石头森林。 

Looking from a distance，

covering an area of 400 square kilometers the stone forest is like a huge gray-black stone sword, pinnacles, and stone pillars. The stones there are oddly shaped, with pillars magnificently standing erect like a forest.

 

石林被称为“世界喀斯特的精华”，

是世界上唯一位于亚热带高原地区的喀斯特地质地貌奇观。

Stone Forest is the only karst stone forest in a subtropical plateau region in the world. It is the essence of the world's karst geomorphology. 

拥有世界上喀斯特地貌演化历史最久远、分布面积最广、类型齐全、形态独特的古生代岩溶地貌群落，是“中国南方喀斯特”世界自然遗产核心区。 

 Stone forest has the world's most ancient evolution history of karst landform, the widest distribution area, complete types and unique form of Paleozoic karst landform community stone forest, It is the core area of the "South China Karst" World Natural Heritage.

喀斯特是水对可溶性岩石改造后形成的一系列地貌，

因西方地理学家最早在南欧的喀斯特高原进行研究而得名，

也被称为岩溶地貌。

Karst is a series of landforms formed after water erodes soluble rocks. Because the earliest research was carried out by western geographers in the Karst plateau of southern Europe, hence the named.

 石林涵盖了地球上众多的喀斯特地貌类型，是世界上唯一能以“石林”发育遗迹和“石林”景观系列展现地球演化历史的喀斯特地质地貌奇观景区， 被誉为“世界喀斯特地貌博物馆”。

All the most typical Karst stone forest landforms in every part of world can be seen here. 喀斯特地质博物馆也叫未来也来公园，

成立于2008年，位于昆明东南部石林风景区。

博物馆展示厅占地400平方米，

收藏了1200多件在石林地区发现的化石。

地质博物馆将自然、科学、艺术相结合，以丰富的内容和形式，集中讲述距今已有数百万年历史的石林的演变过程。

Established in 2008, the Karst Geological Museum is situated in the Stone Forest Scenic Attraction in Southeastern Kunming. The exhibition hall of the museum covers 400 square meters and has housed 1,200 items that are highlighted by fossils discovered in the Stone Forest area. Combining nature, science and art, the Geological Museum uses rich contents and multiple ways to concentrate on evolution of the Stone Forest whose history can date back to millions of years a

go.

大叠水瀑布

Dadieshui Waterfall

大叠水瀑布又名“飞龙瀑”，

位于石林县西南部25公里，

它是云南省最大且最壮观的瀑布。

瀑布大约高90米宽30米，

水流以每秒150立方米的速度

从30米宽的悬崖上冲下88米直冲岩石。

景区由珍珠泉、大叠水瀑布、仙人洞、清水河等景点组成。

Dadieshui Waterfall  is known as the "Flying Dragon Waterfall" , it is located 25 km southwest of Shilin County, and is the largest and most spectacular waterfall in Yunnan Province. Dadieshui Waterfall is about 90 meters high and 30 meters wide. The water rushes down over a 30 meter wide section of cliff at 150 cubic meters per second down 88 meters to the rocks. The landscapes are including the Dadieshui Waterfall, Xiaodieshui Waterfall, Cave of Celestial Being, Pigeon Garden, Half-Waterfall Park and Qingshui River.

乃古石林

Naigu Stone Forest

乃古石林是一片威严耸峙的黑色石林，

如怒涛直冲云霄，气势磅礴，屹立在那里，

如骇人的古代战场，

会引起游人的各种遐想。

乃古”在彝族萨尼语中是古老和黑色的意思，

乃古石林景区由石林景观、白云湖、石峰山、幽谷仙瀑组成。

In the Naigu Stone Forest, oddly-shaped stones in dark shadow pierce into the sky like angry waves, with full of power and grandeur, or stand there like frightening ancient battle fields, which may arouse visitors’ all kinds of thoughts and imaginations.“Naigu” means old and black in the Sani language of the Yi People. It is composed of the east area, west area, Baiyun Lake, Baiyun Cave and ancient battlefield, etc.
