Variegated Copperware is celebrated for its distinctive patterns and exquisite craftsmanship, making it the crown jewel of metalwork.

In Kunming, Yunnan, there is a little-known Variegated Copperware Museum called the "Lotus Warehouse." It houses exhibitions, workshops, and educational activities related to variegated copperware, providing one of the rare opportunities to have a comprehensive understanding of Yunnan Variegated Copperware.

至今有300多年的历史，

工艺可分为生斑和熟斑两类。

其中生斑工艺十分复杂，

且成品极少，

市场上多以熟斑工艺制品为主。

Yunnan Variegated Copperware has a history of over 300 years. Its craftsmanship can be divided into two categories: "raw spots" (sheng ban) and "mature spots" (shu ban). The process of creating raw spots is highly complex, resulting in very few finished products. On the market, mature spot copper products are more common and widely available.

生斑工艺

熟斑工艺

生斑工艺有数十道工序，

稍一疏忽即前功尽弃。

其中有十来道工序全靠一锤锤敲打，

一件座品需打几万锤方能定型。

熟斑工艺采用的是铸造法，

继承发扬了古滇青铜器

在铸造、形制上的精华，

所以品种较多。

Raw spot craftsmanship involves dozens of steps, and a slight negligence can ruin all the previous efforts. Among them, about ten steps rely solely on the hammering technique, requiring tens of thousands of strikes to shape a single piece. In contrast, the mature variegated-copperware craftsmanship utilizes casting methods, inheriting and expanding upon the essence of ancient Dian bronze in terms of casting and form. Therefore, there is a greater variety of products in the mature variegated copperware category.

滇铜错工艺

在斑铜的基础之上的制作，

吸收了历代中华工艺技能精华。

包括铸、敲、镂、錾、镶、镀、掐等，

The Dian Copper Misfit Craftsmanship is created based on variegated copperware, incorporating the essence of various Chinese craftsmanship skills from different eras. It involves techniques such as casting, hammering, carving, chiseling, inlaying, plating, and enamel work, as well as unique surface treatment techniques that seamlessly blend variegated copperware with other metalworking techniques. The masterpieces of Dian Copper Craftsmanship in the Lotus Warehouse combine techniques such as blackening, silver overlay, chiseling, and hollowing, harmoniously creating new forms of artistic expression.

Dian Copper Craftsmanship not only preserves the beauty of variegated copperware but also extends its possibilities further. Among them, the works of Master Li Honggang are highly representative. Two of his pieces were showcased at the East Asia International Exchange and Exhibition and have been collected by individuals.
