Lincang in Yunnan Province, known in ancient times as Maenning, was named for its proximity to the Lancang River. Lincang is home to 23 ethnic minorities, including Wa, Dai, Lahu, Brown, Yi, and Jingpo, and is one of the birthplaces of Wa culture.

The Wa, who live in both China and Myanmar, are an ethnic minority living across the border. The Wa have only a spoken language and no written language, and their ethnic culture is very distinct and unique. Ongdene is like the epitome of the history of Wa Mountain, recording the distant past and present of Wa Mountain. It is hidden deep in the mountains, but over the years it has created a unique Wa landscape and culture.

Wengding, which means "a place where clouds and mist intertwine" in the Wa language, has a history of more than four hundred years and is considered by National Geographic magazine to be "the last primitive tribe in China". Wengding Wa Village is built in the foothills of the Misty Mountains, where there is an average of 147 days of fog a year, creating a sea of clouds in the Wa Mountains.

Surrounded by mountains and a clear stream, the Wa people's thatched-roof and bamboo buildings are scattered throughout the village. Inside the Wa walled city, there are Wa gates, totem poles, stakes, ritual houses, sacred forests, wooden drum houses, traditional handicraft workshops Wa poles and rail thatched houses, etc. The architectural styles of Wa dwellings and original Wa customs are inherited and passed on from generation to generation.

The Wa traditional costumes are mainly black and red in color and are usually decorated with bullheads, rock painting patterns, mountain shapes, square shapes, silverware, shells, and stone reeds. Their contents reflect the natural landscape of Wa Mountain and the beliefs and customs of the Wa people.

将水汽均匀洒落在翁丁佤寨的角落;
When the sun rises, the mist looks like a light veil, evenly sprinkling water vapor in the corners of Wengding Wa Village; and when the sun sets, it diffuses and disperses under the flickering of the wind, still telling the past and future of Wengding Wa Village throughout the day and night.
