The king of the Bagan Dynasty Anawrahta is a devout Buddhist. In 1057, when King Anawrahta conquered the Mon capital of Thaton,
he brought back over 30 Tripitaka Pali scriptures,
Buddhist monks and craftsmen
helped to transform Bagan into a religious and cultural center. Mon craftsmen, artisans, artists, architects, goldsmiths, and wood-carvers were taken to Pagan, where they taught their skills and arts to the Burmans, which formed the basis of the temples and buildings of today’s Bagan.

Thatbyinnyu Temple is the highest pagoda in Bagan,
which was built in 1144-1151 during the reign of King Alungsithu. The name “byinnyu” of the pagoda was named after the Omniscience of the Buddha. As the second-largest pagoda in Bagan, with 67 meters in height, it was known as the "Bagan Twin pagoda" together with the beautiful Ananda Pagoda.

Shwesandaw Pagoda
Shwesandaw means “the holy Buddha Sarira” in Burmese. It contains a series of five terraces, topped with a cylindrical stupa, and a bejeweled umbrella.
The pagoda was built by King Anawrahta in 1057,
and it is the tallest pagoda in Bagan with 50 meters in height that you could climb barefoot to admire the sunset before 2017.

Ananda Pagoda
is the most beautiful pagoda in Bagan.
It was built in 1090 during the reign of King Kyansittha.
The temple is said to be an architectural wonder in a fusion of Mon and adopted Indian style of architecture.
The impressive temple has also been titled the "Westminster Abbey of Burma".

蒲甘坐落在蜿蜒流经缅甸中部平原的伊洛瓦底江畔，是一处欣赏佛教艺术和建筑的圣地。该遗址由8个遗产点组成，内有大量寺庙、窣堵坡、修行所、朝圣地以及考古遗迹、壁画和雕塑。遗产地展示了11-13世纪的蒲甘文明，当时的蒲甘是一个地区王国的都城，这里的成片建筑反映这个早期佛教国家的宗教热情。
The World Heritage Committee said of Bagan:
Lying on a bend of the Ayeyarwady River in the central plain of Myanmar, Bagan is a sacred landscape, featuring an exceptional range of Buddhist art and architecture. The seven components of the serial property include numerous temples, stupas, monasteries and places of pilgrimage, as well as archaeological remains, frescoes and sculptures. The property bears spectacular testimony to the peak of the Bagan civilization (11th -13th centuries CE), when the site was the capital of a regional empire. This ensemble of monumental architecture reflects the strength of religious devotion of an early Buddhist empire.
