Danic: How much budget do we have for our trip to New York?
Kelly: In total, it should be about seven thousand dollars for the week’s conference. Would you like to see the breakdown?
Danic: Yes, I want to know exactly where the money is going. Can you give me the details please?
Kelly: First, we have the airline tickets which are eight hundred dollars per person. With four of us going, that's three thousand and two hundred dollars. Our accommodation costs one hundred dollars a night per room for five days, that's another one thousand dollars.
Danic: Can't you find anything less expensive? We're sharing rooms, right?
Kelly: Yes, two people to a room. One hundred dollars a room is the lowest I could find. With the conference going on that week, all the hotels have inflated their prices. They're making a killing.
Danic: So far, that's forty-two hundred dollars, what else?
Kelly: I have budgeted thirty dollars per person per day for meals, that's another six hundred dollars. Then for other incidentals like taxis, fees and tips, I've estimated five hundred dollars.
Danic: Well, that's 5,300 dollars—less than six thousand dollars. Didn't you say the total is seven thousand? Where is the rest of the money going?
Kelly: That's my buffer. I want to leave a little room in the budget just in case. It's better to be safe than sorry!
