On Asia–Europe routes, rates from Northeast Asia climbed 5% to $4.74 per kg, while those from Southeast Asia rose 3%.
Yet stronger demand is not translating into longer commitments. Among new contracts taking effect in Q3 2026, 60% were for three months or less—up from 25% a year earlier and 47% in the previous quarter. Agreements lasting more than 12 months accounted for just 3%.
Shippers are also exploring flexible pricing mechanisms that allow rates to adjust as market conditions change, rather than committing to fixed terms over longer periods.
The focus is on balancing access to capacity with the flexibility to respond to a changing market.
