1，Make a dent 引起注意，取得进展改善
US government has barely made a dent in its deficit .
美国政府在财政赤字这块儿几乎还没任何进展。
2，an axe to grind 有所图谋，别有用心，有私心
Everyone knows Mr White is someone with an axe to grind .
大伙儿都知道怀特先生是一个城府很深的人。
Like all other politicians , he says he wants to do good things for his people , but I think he has an axe to grind .
就像所有其他政客一样，他也声称要为自己的人民谋福利，但我怀疑他另有所图。
3，Lash out at ...攻击 抨击 大声责骂
If you lash out at somebody , you are only making you more angry . Plus , you are hurting yourself too .
如果你大声责骂某人，你这样只会让自己怒火更大。而且，你还会伤着自己呢。
4，Play the field 从事多种活动; 从事多方面的交往（指做事、恋爱等不专一）
You've had a string of young ladies , haven't you ? You really like to play the field .

5，Be upfront about ... 坦率坦诚
She's not very upfront with me about our relationship from the beginning .

6，Get a sense of ... 了解，领悟，理解
It's strongly recommended that you get a sense of your company's unwritten rules .

Those refugees received short-shrift when they first got to Europe .

9，Be wound up in something 紧张 激动
She was all wound up before performance .
演出前，她非常紧张。
10，A cake walk 容易办的事儿，易事儿，好办
That was a cake walk . It's nothing to speak of .
