US, China Discuss Cutting Tariffs on American LNG
China and the United States are discussing reducing or removing Chinese tariffs on American liquefied natural gas, Reuters reported Friday, potentially easing a barrier to bilateral energy trade.
近日，据路透社报道，中国和美国正在讨论削减或取消中国对美国液化天然气（LNG）征收的关税，此举有望降低能源贸易壁垒。
China imposed a 15% tariff on US LNG in February 2025, effectively halting bilateral LNG trade.

The talks come as the US LNG industry enters a major expansion phase. Export capacity is expected to grow by about 10 billion cubic feet a day through 2027 as new and expanded facilities ramp up.

The return of Chinese buyers could help absorb that growing supply.

Companies have continued signing long-term supply agreements despite the tariffs. China Gas Holdings and Venture Global announced on September 14 a deal covering 500,000 tonnes of LNG annually for 20 years starting in 2030. The agreement brings their total contracted supply volume to 2.5 million tonnes a year.
