China Solar Exports Fall for Fourth Straight Month
China's solar equipment exports fell for a fourth straight month in August, adding to pressure on an industry already grappling with weaker demand at home and persistent overcapacity.

China exported 840,000 metric tons of solar cells and panels last month, down 39% from a year earlier but slightly above July's 830,000 tons, according to customs data. The value of shipments fell 23.1% to $2.25 billion, while exports measured by units dropped 37.8%.

The decline mainly reflects a policy adjustment by Beijing, which eliminated value-added tax export rebates for photovoltaic products from April 1.

The weekness comes as the global solar industry enters a slower phase after years of rapid expansion. BloombergNEF expects worldwide solar installations to slip to about 640 gigawatts this year from more than 650 gigawatts in 2025, which would mark the first annual decline on record.

The industry association has forecast 180 to 240 gigawatts of new capacity for 2026, which would be down sharply from the record 315 gigawatts installed last year.
