In August, 2026, Cathay Group announced its interim results. Middle East tensions pushed up jet fuel prices, yet Cathay Cargo still achieved volume-and-yield growth: in H1 2026, revenue rose 23.9% to HK$13.806 billion; cargo volume rose 8.5% to 869,000 tonnes; load factor reached 59.2%.

1. Not just capacity—specialist solutions✅

General cargo remains the base, but nine specialist solutions—perishables, pharma cold chain, live animals, lithium batteries, dangerous goods, valuables, e-commerce, mail and out-of-gauge cargo—account for about 25%–33% of volume. They generate higher yield and require real expertise. AI, data centers and semiconductors are new growth drivers.

2. Hong Kong + Greater Bay Area🌍

Hong Kong International Airport has been the world’s busiest cargo airport 15 times since 2010. Within five hours’ flight, it can reach 50% of the world’s population. Cathay operates 90+ freighter flights weekly to 40+ destinations, plus belly capacity to 100+ destinations. Hong Kong handles about 70% of the GBA’s international air cargo.

3. Multimodal network✈️🚢🚛

Air-to-air, air-to-land and air-to-sea connect Hong Kong with the GBA. In August 2025, Cathay became the first airline to launch the “Air-Land Perishable Express”. Chilean cherries can land in Hong Kong and reach GBA markets in 3–4 hours—cleared and ready by evening.
